Safety

When to stop using your garage door

Your door’s springs carry most of its weight. The springs, the cables, the drums they wind on and the bottom brackets are all under high tension. The door industry’s safety guidance (DASMA) says not to remove, repair or adjust them yourself.

  • Heard a bang? Don’t run the opener. Look for a gap in the spring above the door.
  • Door stuck open? Keep people and cars clear. Don’t pull the red release while it’s open.
  • Cable loose or door crooked? Stop using the door until it’s inspected.
  • Monthly: lay a 2×4 flat under the door and close it. It should reverse.

Local context

Garage doors in Fulshear homes

Fulshear grew from about 1,100 residents in the 2010 Census to nearly 17,000 in 2020, and Census Bureau estimates show it has kept growing fast since. That shapes the garage door questions homeowners here tend to have.

Mostly newer homes
Census survey data puts the median year built at 2016, with about nine in ten homes built since 2010. Many garages still have their original springs and opener, which are worth checking during any service visit.
HOA approval for new doors
Master-planned communities such as Cross Creek Ranch ask residents to submit exterior changes for design review before work begins. Get the style and color approved before ordering.
Storms and power outages
Hurricane Beryl left about 2.26 million CenterPoint customers in the Houston area without power in July 2024. Know how to use your opener’s manual release, and consider battery backup.
Heat and humidity
Insulated doors and good weatherseals help keep attached garages and the rooms above them more comfortable. Compare tested door ratings, not just headline R-values.

Common questions

How does Fulshear Garage Door Pros work?

Call, or send one short request describing what your garage door is doing. Your request goes directly to one independent, locally operating garage door company serving Fulshear, who contacts you, confirms the details and quotes the job. Fulshear Garage Door Pros is a referral website: we don’t perform repairs ourselves. See how it works.

Will my details be sent to several companies?

No. Each request goes to one company: the independent provider working with us at the time. We don’t sell your contact details or send them to a list of competing companies.

Do I have to hire the company that contacts me?

No. Requesting service is free and there’s no obligation. The company confirms the details and quotes the job, and whether to go ahead is entirely your decision.

How much does garage door repair cost in Fulshear?

No one can quote accurately without seeing the door. National cost guides put a typical repair, parts and labor, at $150–$350 (Fixr, 2025). For replacing both springs, Fixr (2025) lists $200–$350 for torsion springs and $120–$250 for extension springs; This Old House (2026) lists $350–$540 and $300–$400. These are national budgeting figures, not Fulshear averages or prices from the independent company that receives your request, which quotes after seeing your door. See typical costs.

Is it safe to open my garage door if a spring is broken?

No. With a broken spring the door’s weight is no longer counterbalanced, so it can be very heavy or drop unexpectedly, and the opener can be damaged trying to lift it. Leave the door closed if you can, and don’t touch the springs, cables or bottom brackets. See the spring repair guide.

How quickly can someone come out?

It depends on the company’s schedule, and we won’t promise a time we can’t guarantee. The company confirms timing when they contact you.

Which areas do you cover?

This site is for homeowners in Fulshear, Texas (ZIP 77441) and nearby Fort Bend County neighborhoods. Whether the company can serve your exact address is confirmed when they contact you.
